a relative bought a new tower with windows media centre pre-installed from an auction site and it worked fine until it updated to sp2 from automatic downloads , now when ever he goes to microsoft to download and presses express or custom instal,to download anything at all, the pc locks up, its a genuine activated copy of media centre
help please its very frustrating

anyways... does your PC lock up totally, or just windows update locking up?

Have you checked event viewer at all for any error codes?

What happens if you go into windows update via the website instead of using the Security Centre?

it needs a reboot no mattter how i try and download from microsoft , tried another firewall and turned windows one off

no matter how it gets to windows update the result is the same
