Lo all,

I've not had internet access for a few weeks so when I got back online I decided to check windows updates. It highlighted Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB922770) as a critical update so I downloaded it. it failed to install, I tried doing a 'shutdown and install updates' but that failed too. Now Auto Updates keeps telling me to install the update every time I turn on my computer and when I try it fails every time.

Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers

A few people have this problem, me included, as yet I don't have an answer...sorry. I remember going through this before, downloaded a fix from somewhere.

auto updates has been annoying me a lot recently, been having this problem with multiple updates, and officeupdates especially!

This happened to me too. The fix is to run this cleanup tool which will remove NET Framework 2.0.

http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip

Then run Windows Update again and it will detect Framework 2.0 which you will have to download and install all over again.

Finally run Windows Update for a second time and the updates to NET Framework 2.0 should install successfully. :)

Hey Marcus,
I ran the tool and now windows update isn't bugging me every 5 minutes! However, when I ran updater and used the express or the custom function it didn't detect Framework 2.0 at all...

I'm not worried about but I thought I would let you know.

Cheers for the fix!

Thanks Marcus. I'll give that a try too.

Windows updates has gone haywire all of sudden. I've been searching for answers in the MS forum and gotten nothing but confusing, contradicting and ultimately useless advice. It's like MS is doing NOTHING about this. Even the "update to fix the update filter" does not work. Crazy.

I hope the .NET fix works. I was about to reinstall windows. Thanks.

THANKYOU! :)

I used the utility to uninstall ALL versions of .NET

After that I finally got the security updates installed that have kept failing to install.

I recall that only one or two of my apps need .NET so I'll worry about reinstalling .NET in a bit (Thanks bledd). Just glad to have my security up to date again. Nice to know that my windows install was not completely nakkered afterall.

whew!

using it now to fix my mum's

these WU problems are really peeing me off now

not had any legit copies of xp say they're illegal yet though *fingerscrossed!

anyone have a link to the program that deletes the update temp files that are left after the windows updates have installed.
i did have it but had to reinstall and have lost it, sorry cant remember the name of it though.
thanks
