Windows updates stuck on 0% downloading

Trying to update my Windows 8.1 laptop I checked for updates and it showed 70 updates available to download. I clicked download but it's just stuck on 'downloading updates' 0kb total 0% complete.

Has anyone had this before? I did Google it but nothing really helped - Just things like system restore etc

I think I had something similar to this before, but what caused it was a stuck update. I cleaned out all my old update folders and it just started to work. May not fix your issue but worth mentioning.

give it time, my laptop took awhile to decide to update the progress and then all of a sudden it came to life

Happens all the time, just wait and it will eventually start doing something.

As above, from what I noticed with Win 8.1 it says it's still on 0% but in reality it's not. Takes a (long) while for the progress bar to update on the actual progress.

Search and click "troubleshooting" then select "fix problems with Windows Update" in the new window.

Go to Advanced in the next window and Run as Administrator.
Check "Apply repairs automatically."
