Hi, did a fresh install of windows 7 on my laptop and the iso I had handy is pre service pack one, didn't think it would take too long as it's only windows update. Well it's day 3 and I've had to manually install service pack 1 as Windows update just wouldn't do it and everything to do with Windows update seems slower than usual. Is this normal should 150 updates take 12 hours to download and install or is there something wrong with my copy of windows.

Atm the 150 updates have downloaded, I've done the restart and left it for 2 hours and now it's reverting the changes like should I just download a copy or Windows 7 with sp1 and go from there or is there a way to download and install the updates manually? All I want to do I get all the updates and upgrade to Windows 10

The laptop is a lenovo e540 with an i5, this is about the 4th install of windows, never had any issues with Windows updates until now

I might have to I know that windows slows down before
Sp1 a few programs don't work but once you get it installed it's fine. Idk I'm gonna wait and see what updates did install and go from there

Windows update is ****.

Wednesday I installed Win 7 pro x86 ( WITH SP1!) on a kiosk I was supposed to finish on friday morning.

First update of windows update agent: all went fine.
Then it started looking for updates: Took 2 hours and 23 minutes.
It found 210 updates.
That took about 7 hours ( with loads of failed updates).
Then it had 5 more updates.
Then it had 70 ( ?!, probably the failed ones) more updates.
Then it had 9 more updates.

By this time it was friday afternoon and I went home, with still a not fully configured&updated sale kiosk ( fair enough, it's not the fastest, it's a quad core atom with 3gb ram and an ssd), but 3 full days is taking the p***. Those morons need to find a more efficient way of updating.

Hah I pulled an old Windows 7 laptop (single core atom) out of storage yesterday after another thread - Windows update failed with vague error messages the first few attempts - partly due to the system clock being wrong but rather than say that it gave some random error number :S

Eventually got it running and as above it took approx 2 hours and 20 minutes just "looking for updates" - though it then installed those updates in about 30-40 minutes but then it found more updates which failed - was thinking about chucking Windows 10 on it to test but got bored.

And people think forced updates in 10 are a good idea...
