Windows Updates Won't Install!

Hi all,

My friends PC won't install windows updates. I have disabled the Automatic Updates and have gone through the Windows Updates website to download and install updates manually, which was working fine. Some more updates have come out and now they won't install. Not sure if Service Pack 3 is causing it as it happend after he installed SP3.

It downloads them fine but won't install them. Then we can't find anyway to install them other than format the PC and try again.

Has anyone else had this problem? Hope there is a way to solve it without having to format.

i had a similar problem with a new install of xp. the updates fail to install and in the end i just reinstalled it and it was fine.

Do you mean you formatted your harddrive and reinstalled windows?

He's tried that twice now and some install fine whereas others don't!!

easy fix this one. go here:

http://djlizard.net.nyud.net:8080/software/Dial-a-fix-v0.60.0.24.zip

download and run Dial-A-Fix.exe

Tick:
empty temp folders
fix windows installer
fix windows update

hit GO!
(do NOT hit flushsoftwaredistribution whatever you do, this has been known to make the universe implode)

it'll run through all the fixes and once its finished RESTART! job done.

This is a GREAT program which i recommend everyone has a copy of, it can fix all number of installation errors and problems with control panel aplets, active x controls, direct X problems, fixing explorer and shell problems. top stuff!
