Ever since April last year my computer has been failing to install updates.

I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Centre upgraded from windows 8, upgraded from windows 7 so I don't have a 8.1 disc but I do have one for 8

Whenever I install updates throught windows update this shows up

Whenever I try the standalone installer this happens (such help)

I ran the windows update troubleshooter and this came up

But it shows up every time so I think its not fixing it even though it's saying it is.

This is the detailed information:

sounds like you have a bad install of windows, repair is out of the question as you have upgraded, so for the answer you may not want to hear, i'd say your in for a long night, as only option you have, is a reinstall, but and it's a big but, what versions do you own?

are any oem? or full versions?

if they are the full versions, back up what you need and get a windows 8.1 iso and install that, making sure you delete / remove the partitions and start again with a new clean install, with nothing left on the drives at all, then use you're key, it wont work online to register, you will need to phone but it's free anyway, if it doesn't auto do it, then you will have to speak to them, but it will work as the key for 8 is the same as 8.1

want you dont need to do is install 7 first, as you already have 8...

never yet seen a update on a update, upgrade / upgrade work for any length of time, as for me it's not a great way of going forward keeping older stuff you can take over problems and most do from the last install, while they have spent lots of time trying to fix it, most just dont work to well over time, then a repair is a nightmare...

this may still lead to a nightmare also, depending on what versions of the o/s you own, of any are oem, or have been used before to many times, or on different hardware and are not full versions will fail to activate at all, and you will be told so, then as a last resort as you have upgraded, you will have to install win 7 and then 8, then 8.1 i'm sorry to say, for me i'd just wipe it and get a win 8.1 disk first and try the key, if it doesn't work buy a key only as it will say you time in the long run, as upgrade disk are just that, upgrade only versions... and are sold as such

not just a update issue if you read up the page a bit, with some data base errors also fixed, so maybe not just a simple update error, may have others issues and as a clean install fixes all, i know what i'd go for but good luck anyway
