Windows Updates

I've just done a fresh install of Windows XP Pro SP3 and I'm having annoying problems with windows updates, it downloads them all fine but then fails on all the installations. I also can’t install msn messenger using the windows live downloader thing. That fails too, so I’m guessing it’s a setting I can change.

Any of you guys had this problem?

open a command prompt and enter this:

net stop wuauserv
regsvr32 %windir%\system32\wups2.dll
net start wuauserv

should work, i have had this before and this has worked nearly every time.

had the same problems this week as OP was 13 updates that just wouldnt install after i had updated to sp3 xp mce 2005 btw.
In the end i just wrote down the update numbers of the updates that wouldnt install i.e kb951760banged em in google and that took me straight to sperate update files downloaded all of them and installed manually eventually the auto update cleared itself.
