Hi all

As you all know every now and again windows will like to be updated, is it a must or do you find it best to turn off automatic updates...

Only reason I ask is because my mate seems to think his system is now BSOD and freezing because of the latest update that Windows have put out

Is this the case?

Cheers

It's unlikely to be the case that a flaw in Windows alone is causing the issue (millions if PCs take every update ok). But the update could trigger or expose some underlying problem.

Luckily, windows has repair and troubkeshooting tools built-in. And many websites explain trying safe-bootibg etc. In the end, a process of careful elimination could find the root cause.

It's always possible.

Post the bluescreen.

Typically they are caused by..

Bad ram, bad driver, bad drive/disk, bad PSU, bad over lock, be bios, bad GPU, bad motherboard, bad CPU.

Need specs etc.

and much more... some people never diagnose the fault properly usually a format is the only way to resolve it. Even then sometimes it only gets resolved fully after changing hardware but not always the case. :)

Without some serious messing about you can't entirely disable updates in 10 unfortunately and they do not infrequently mess things up - though BSODs are more commonly due to other issues.
