Hello all, has anyone had any success or found any issues upgrading from Vista to Windows 8?

I am considering either a clean install or to try the upgrade method keeping personal files. I don't actually have many personal files because it's all on my external hard-drive.

I've been living in a vacuum for a number of years and that is why I never moved on from Vista. My main uses have been general for the internet and ms office.

It would be better to do a clean install rather than an upgrade.

If you want to keep personal files (I assume you mean like stuff in My Documents etc.) you could create a second partition on the main drive and move the personal files to this second partition.

Then install Windows 8 to the first partition and your files will remain untouched on the second partition which you can then copy back again. Delete or keep second parition (is up to you).

Edit: sorry missed the bit about the external drive. Well I would do a clean install personally

It sounds like it would be trivial for you to move the remaining personal files over to the external drive and then just do a clean install.

An upgrade would likely work fine, but you should back up your files before doing it anyway so it kind of defeats the point.
