My mate is getting a laptop off ebay.com and needs to know if it will work fine here. It should work fine - windows wise- yes ? . He just wants some confirmation.

It will have a US keyboard if that's where it's manufactured and retailed at, and prolly have different power requirements. At a guess those should be the only difference.

Yep the only problems he may face will be the keyboard and power although laptops these days usually have power bricks rated for 110v-230v so even that should be fine and no you will have no problem with any software

Windows to change from US to UK is fairly easy (Regional and Language options).

As for power concerns just check *** AC pack does have 100v-240v and 50hz - 60hz. Otherwise you'll just need to get a new AC power pack. Although its rare for them not to support both US and UK voltages and frequencies.

If I remember correctly, there's no pound sign on an American keyboard.
All I remember is that the " and @ signs are swapped round. Don't remember any other changes, TBH. :o

the us keyboard isn't a problem.

I'm pretty sure if you change it to English layout under settings you will get the English pound sign, you just wont have the picture on the keyboard.

BUT before buying you need to find out what the volt rating is. As above some are 130-250V others are 130V only. If it's 13oV only they you have to get a converter. If its 130-250 then you simply cut the American plug off and fit an English plug.
