Windows Version Advise

So it's been 4 years since my last Windows machine and jumping back on the waggon.

I had a play early in the life time of Windows 8 and hated it, so as it stands what I used to use and use at work is Windows 7 but I'm not sure if things have changed with the newer versions. The system will be used mainly for gaming what operating system would you guys suggest for me?

Im ordering a system so I would like it pre loaded therefore I'm guessing Windows 10 is out of the question.

Just watched the Windows 8 video, the whole desktop view suits me and I like but it's the Xbox style setup it has that doesn't appeal therefore I'm thinking of going for Windows 7.

Is there any advantage for games using Windows 8?
