Guys to cut a long story short, I have my girlfriends laptop here thats in a bit of a state, she no longer as any of the windows disc. I have a few 64 bit versions of vista at home. Is it fine to format a Vista 32 bit system with a 64bit version disc. I no any copy of a windows discs works on any system.

Its been a while since I formated a Vista system so I cant remember exatly how you stand with this situation.

Other than that i remember there used to be a legal site to download Windows disc is that still going. I cant remember for the life of me if it was part of windows support or a 3rd party site. or if I have just imagined that lol.

Any help appreciated.

Does it have a recovery partition that you can access when it starts up, something like F11

From memory, you can use a 64bit disc with the code on the bottom. When going through the setup when you get to the hard disk screen, remove all partitions and then select the newly empty one to install.

I'd check for that recovery partition first though.
