Howzit guys,

I have upgraded from 32 bit vista to 64bit vista. Now I cannot get my videos to show thumbnails like they used to in 32 bit vista. Also, my Windows Media Center keeps telling me it cannot play video files, due to missing codec files.

Can anyone recommend me a good codec pack to use with Windows Vista 64-bit, that will:

1. Show the thumbnails of video files.
2. Work with Windows Media Player,
3. Work with Windows Media Center.

Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated! :D

Thank you!

I've had this issue ever since I moved to x64. Currently using FFDShow so some thumbnail previews show up such as wmv's, but most xvids don't. I use Zoom Player for video usage so I've never worked out why thumbnails don't appear. Obviously a codec issue but I can't sort it.

Sorry for the hijack but it's related.

Does anyone know how to make Vista Media Centre recognise MKV files? I have tried various codec packs (though no the Vista Codec Pack yet) and have tried manually adding the MKV codec, but nothing seems to work. :(

The problem with 64bit Windows is that there are very few codecs that are actually 64bit. Most say they are, but install to 'x86 Program Files' and not 'Program Files'.

After much hunting I found a decent pack, but it does not do thumbnails, but it does actually allow WMC to run most of my video files...and I've forgotten what it was...I think it was FFDShow.

What do you mean "recognise", they play fine here in VMC.

(Well they did - i have a sound problem with all videos atm)

What codec package do you use.

I use Vista Codec Package (+ 64bit components because i am Vista 64bit).

Do MKV files play in WMP cause VMC is built on that i think.
I can make them play fine in apps like WMP11, WMP Classic, VLC Player etc. I've used various codec packs like K-Lite Codec Pack and CCCP, but have yet to try the 'Vista Codec Pack' so I will give that a go tonight and see if it works.

Make sure you remove any codecs/codec packages installed.

Also - have no idea what WMP Classic is......do you mean MPC?
