Hey

I just installed Vista64bit, everything was working fine but for some reason today its not picking up my CD DRIVE.

It picks it up in the BIOS with no problem, in device manager it has the “!” mark and says:

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available."

I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it and i get the same error.

Strange how its happened totally out of blue, can't think why.

please help!

Try this
click the start menu
find the search box (located at directly above the start menu button)
type in "regedit" and press enter
you might get a warning asking if you want to open the "Registry Edit"
click yes
now you should have the registry edit program open
double click on "computer"
double click on "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
double click on "SYSTEM"
double click on "CurrentControlSet"
double click on "Control"
double click on "Class"
double click on "{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
now you should see a list of items on the right side of the window
and there is an item named "lowerfilter"
anyway... right click on it and click delete.
once deleted, close the registry edit prgram and restart your pc.
hope it works

oh man, that worked a treat!!

Thanks a lot! :)

Strange how it just happened out of the blue for no reason though... still i guess thats windows for ya!
