Hi there, Just this morning I've reformatted my drive and installed Vista 64 bit. Windows 7 was causing me problems with certain games so I've decided to revert to my other OS. Now, I am experiencing a few problems that I hadn't had previously. The first problem is that performance is seeming to be incredibly sluggish when performing simple tasks such as opening control panel and installing programs. So far this is what i've done, in this order as well:

Formatted drive
Installed Windows
Installed Motherboard drivers
Installed Graphics Card drivers
Downloaded AVG
Allowed Windows update to start downloading various updates.

Now, the Motherboard drivers installed fine, I inserted the disk, the drivers installed, I restarted, no problem. Now, when I tried to install the graphics card drivers the computer just hang at about 25% of the installation, it became completely unresponsive and I had to hold the power button in because Windows wouldn't respond to any keystrokes or mouse clicks. Upon restarting the graphics driver installation commenced automatically, which was weird, and it now seems to be installed fine. Next I tried to install AVG free edition. Upon the first attempt, the program did exactly the same thing as when installing the graphics drivers and I had to restart the machine by pressing the reset button. Then, upon restarting I had found that AVG had actually installed, I tried to run the program and nothing happened, absolutely nothing, no systray icon, no error message, nothing. I checked in task manager and there was no mention of AVG, so I've uninstalled, and reinstalled, the program now seems to be working fine.

I've never had a worse experience than this when trying to perform such simple tasks, The computer is also taking an absolute age to shut down and restart, is there something I'm missing? Also, after a new installation of Windows are there any tools that I'd need to download to optimise performance of the machine? Any suggestions as to improving performance/stability are welcomed. Cheers :)

By the way, the specs of the machine are as follows and the machine is not overclocked:

Asus P5N-D Nforce 750 sli Motherboard
Intel E8400 @ 3.0 GHz
Nvidia 9800 GT 512Mb
2GB DDR2 800MHz ram
