Hi

What is the best Windows Vista 64bit Optimiser, I dont mind if its paid software. Recently Vista has got slow and sluggish, and a long start up time. They were multiple XP pieces of software that helped solve this a lot. Wondering if there is any software for vista?

Thanks

No real 'optimizers' as such. You could try Comodo System Cleaner or Ccleaner to rid your system of junk files [though personally I'd leave the registry alone], and defragment using Jkdefrag.

Also, use Winpatrol to reduce the amount of crud you have running at system startup. All these items are freeware, and frankly I doubt if there is any payware that could do any more for you.....

You cynic,
my Vista x64 hasn't slowed at all.

Just need more system maintenance probably, as suggested.

I've trimmed out loads of unneeded processes, start up has minimum in it, I have ready boost on a firewire 800 reader with Extreme IV card usung 4gb, superfetch is on.

OS hd is defraged, page file is system managed, I have 8gb ram amd a Phenom 2 940 @ 3.7, so not the quickest system here but not too bad either.

My plans are faster os drive - ssd just too expensive atm imho.

Any suggestions to improve it are welcomed.

ccleaner and jkdefrag are your best options.

Run ccleaner, and the registry optimizer (all it does is remove unused registry entires - eg for applications uninstalled, or for file types not used anymore), and then leave your machine running jkdefrag for a while.

:)

tbh did just that about a month ago when I got really bored and all that's changed is steam and lfs plus a few important updates, I've uninstalled a load of apps I no longer use (before the reg clean etc) - defo slower this week than last

Not used jkdefrag, I do have Smart defrag, on automatic on the os drive only.

there are a few
none of the below are free though
Advanced Vista Optimizer 2009
TuneUp Utilities 2009
Vista Manager
TweakVista

These let you alter basic settings from a nice user interface rather than the registry but none will contain any genuine performance enhancing tweaks. In fact, the most regularly used features of these apps will be the disk and registry cleaners and defraggers.
