All,

Got a Dell XPS420 with Vista 32 Home Premium installed. Only got the pc two days ago and have been installing drivers and few basic apps. Ready for me to switch pcs...however at the moment the Internet is soooo slow its nearly unuseable.

Firefox 3.0.1 installed and IE7...both take ages to show pages. Even google searchs take 3-4 seconds to display. I have searched the net high and low and lots offer various tweeks to get things working. But nothing seems to work :-(

I have a Samsung R700 laptop with Vista installed and Firefox...and it runs fabulously.

My other PC (XP SP2) runs brilliantly...no network or internet delays at all.

Any suggestions? Otherwise it could be the bin for this posh Dell

NB: ONly Firewall and AV I have running are Zonealarm and Avast. Which is the same on all of my PC's. Windows Defender is off and so is Windows Firewall.

Have just checked...nope...its looks like its not...am downloading it now.

I have checked my laptop and that does have Sp1 installed.

Did SP1 for Vista fix quite a lot of performance issues with Internet browsing?

Vista's a new beast for me...been stuck in the XP age!

Do parts of the page start appearing within this 3-4 second delay, or is it stuck at the "looking up [site]" part?

Firstly....Firefox takes ages to load then when it tries to load my home page "google"...you can see if tryin (via the status bar) to find/open/display the pages..But can take like 5-10 seconds to show....nightmare.

IE starts a lot quicker (not that I want to use IE) but again suffers the same problem with speed of accessin the pages. Really odd.

Various sites...like this one...take so long you think its crashed.

The only thing I would say, is that when it does load it loads the whole page...not bit by bit....could this be the issue? Some sort of paint delay...like its tring to cache/paint the page as a whole rather than in chunks
