Windows Vista slow install

Posting on behalf of a friend who's frantically ringing me up every 5 minutes with a new worry :D

His Vista install seems to be taking forever. The expanding files stage took hours instead of many minutes, and now it's on updates and taking another decade or so.

Now he set up a RAID0 volume on the ICH10R (P5Q-Pro), Vista saw it as one drive of the correct capacity, installed the raid drivers and away he went.

Any reason it could be taking longer than installing to a normal single drive? I would have thought it would be faster?

the only time I've seen installs slow to a crawl have been media / dvd drive related.

if there is problems with HD your install tends to just stop.. and your right a RAID 0 install should go faster. (vistas ICH10R drivers are fine so not driver related)

if you don't have a floppy drive but have left controller enabled in BIOS you'll also get longs pauses at a couple of points during install, but nothing like what your talking about.
