Windows Vista SP1 refusing to install

Hey guys, I recently read an article discussing how through the introduction of SP1 windows vista is now on par with XP with regards to gaming,so therefore I want it installed.Upon launching Age of Conan Hyborian Adventures, I get a message saying that it is highly recommended that I update to SP1 before launching. Therefore i go to Microsoft's website and download this

However, upon installation i get this error

Any advice would be much appreciated

Edit- When using automatic update it doesn't even recognise that I am missing SP1

I Ran a memory test and a system file checker tool and found no failures yet it still won't install Also checked my hard drive for errors and there were none!

Have you installed all the other updates offered via Windows Update? SP1 needs some of the other updates to have been installed before it can install.

If you have any updates showing in Windows Update, install them, then reboot to see if you get any more.. repeat until nothing comes up.

I'm just about to put SP1 (I think) on to a friends PC...

It's downloading a 70Mb update... Any things I should do first in case anything goes wrong? I'm always optimistic about these things...
