As expected, Windows Vista Service Pack 2 RC and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 RC is now available to general public for download. You can download the SP2 RC for both Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 below:

* ISO for Windows Server 2008 x86/x64/ia64 and Windows Vista x86/x64
* x86 for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista x86
* x64 for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista x64
* IA64 for Windows Server 2008 ia64

The service pack is delivered as a single release for both Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. There will be a single 32-bit standalone installer (302 MB to 390 MB) for both Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. However, there will be two 64-bit standalone installers, including one which covers x64 architectures (508 MB to 622 MB) and one for Itanium 64-bit (384 MB to 396 MB)

Even though the download page and TechNet website still says its SP2 beta, the download file name reveals that this is indeed the SP2 RC build - 6002.16670.090130-1715_iso_update_sp_wave0-RCSP2.0_DVD.iso. This build is the same build sent out to select testers last week.

Just a short warning to those who don't know..

RC means release candidate, it's not the final release.

There's a chance that you won't be able to remove this, so don't install it unless you have an image backup, don't mind formatting, or are doing it on a test machine

There's no rumour about it, RC means 'we think it's good to go, this is the final test, if no bugs are found, we'll rebadge it as final' :)

Thought I'd install RC2, but now I get

sp2.jpg

in the right hand corner of my screen, is this normal?

Sytem shows that my Vista is activated and genuine.

That is normal for Release candidate and beta versions of Operating systems. I guess it's just there to remind you that what you are using isn't the final version.

I have a Vista DVD waiting to burn from MSDN which I'd like to slipstream. I wish they'd hurry up and release the final version :(.

Pho, why don't you just download the Vista SP2 iso, instead of slipping the SP into the disc, seems pointless

you'll have an 'official' SP2 dvd then

Maybe I dont keep my ear to the ground enough on Windows OS anymore, but SP2 for Vista? Already? Seems crazy.

I've been running this for about a week now. I've not had any problems, but I don't know if it's just me either, I'm sure my slow transfer speeds are now gone! I haven't tried network transfers yet, but to my external usb hard drive, it's certainly faster.

So yeah, no BSOD's or anything like that here. (Vista x64)

Is there anywhere you can get an untampered ISO of vista? (Ie not cracked) as whenever I search google I get a lot of cracked versions.

Would it be possible to link to it?

Thanks.
