x1900xt
2gb ram

As was said in the second post, 64-bit processing has absolutely nothing to do with colour depth. You don't change it anywhere.

This is why you look like an idiot. :p

No, just ignore it. The two are completely unrelated.

64bit vs 32bit programs and processors refers to a different system of computer architecture on a fundamental level.

Colour depth refers to the number of bits used to describe a single colour, thus 32bit colour depth provides greater variation in colours compared to 16bit. Colour depth works exactly the same in Vista as it did on XP, it's by default on 32 on everything and there should be no reason to adjust it.

I love these type of threads :D

Why? because someone doesn't have as much knowledge as others about OS's as you?.....I'm sure at 1 point you didn't know much about 64 bit OS

Soulja, don't take it to heart. The colour depth has been available since Windows 3.1, nothing to do with having a 64 bit OS. I imagine people are laughing because its an elementary mistake, a schoolboy error. Don't blow it out of proportion. We have been where you are now and that's why we laugh.

Also in my system panel it says System Type: 32 Bit Operating System.........Is this what it should say? doesn't seem right too me..... :o

Well no thats not right. I guess you haven't installed the 64-bit version after all.

first, a small chuckle :p

-if it says 32bit in the system properties, then you've def got 32bit installed

(another quick way of checking is look on the C: drive, and see if there are 2x program files folders, on a 64bit system, you'll have one called "program files (x86)" for the 32 bit programs

where did you get the vista from? i think with some you have to pay an extra tenner or so to order the 64bit dvd (you'll have to format using it to install it)

64bit basically means the processor has more data to work with, but at the moment not many programs are optimised for it, in basic terms its kind of like windows having more space to use ram with..

I have the full retail version, i did a clean install and picked x64  I only wanted to install it to try a few 64bit games and for when crysis appears, how much better is 64 compared to 32?

Well to be honest no one will know the answer to that until it is released. From the videos and screenshots that have been released so far are very impressive -so draw your own conclusions :)

Got it sorted, when it asked what type of vista i have i just clicked vista ultimate instead of vista ultimate x64

The ultimate edition comes with both 32bit and 64bit already unlike the other versions which is why the OP could select it at install. LoL at the thread anyway :D

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.

:( Worked fine when i had vista 32 bit
