windows vs mac for htpc

Hi,

What would be the best platform to use for a dedicated htpc. I have an £8000 2 channel set up at present and although I usually use a cd player I want to build a htpc to put all my songs on and some movies for ease of use.

I'm an apple fan and much prefer using there OS however I can see major advantages of building a windows based htpc so I can add my components/sound cards etc and I'm also pretty smitten on the Claritus htpc case from stands unique as well.

sounds like you're already close to choosing a pc build. I guess the only appropriate thing from Apple would be a mac mini. You could be naughty and attempt the best of both worlds

thanks for the reply. the mac mini wouldn't really meet my needs fully as I want to add 4 x 1tb drives eventually plus an md audio 24/96 sound card and add a nice graphics card for 1080p output which the mac mini can't do.

the only really for mac would be the OS but I don't suppose I can load OSX 10.5 on to a normal pc and i'm not sure about linux.

With Mac you pretty much have to use what Apple give you I think. Unless you do a lot of BIOS hacking on a PC...
