I got ubuntu and windows 7 dual booted on a 250g disk, I pulled it from a dead computer to a slim desktop comp that I have as a spare incase the above happens. But it won't boot into windows... As soon as I select it, it starts the logo animation and about 3 second later. It dies and restarts the machine.

If I try to enter safemode with Win 7, it brings up 4 options (5 I think), all referencing 'Windows 7 server/NT/XP'
'Windows 7 server/NT/XP (command)
ect ect

No options to boot into safe mode, only 5 options like the above.

Any ideas?

As much as I love ubuntu, I am still not used to it yet lol.

IDE controller settings in the bios. Turn AHCI off. Just a guess given the info provided.

Of course!!! Did not think of this :D:D:D

BIOS defaults it's self to AHCI if I remember correctly, will give it a shot now and report back.

Nope, was set to IDE, still no luck :(

It seems win 7 is trying to load a driver... Not sure which, most likely my sfx driver. As it used to have problems with that, and it is no longer present so it is probably having a heart attack when it looks for the sound card.

Will see what magic I can work.

When booting Windows, press F8 as soon as you select it and chose "Disable automatic restart on system failure". The BSOD error will remain until you restart so you can see what is causing it to fail. If it doesn't point to a specific identity, google the stop code found 2/3 the way down the screen (starts 0x00 before the brackets).

Boot using the Windows DVD and use the repair tools in there?

Lost my windows disk a while back, but have managed to get it to try and repair, comes up trumps.

Take soundcard out and try?

In built soundcard... Will disable it in BIOS and see how I get one.

I will take a pic of the options I get in F8, I know what you are on about and most of the time I can tell what caused the BSOD from the code if even seeing it for a few seconds.

Tried lots of stuff last night, still no success...

Tried sorting out the BCD... Nothing :(

Would it be worth moving all the sys32/driver files to a different folder one by one, and see how I get on? Or should I just remove all of them? Not delete obviously.

Any mandatory sys32 drivers that need to be there?
