I used Acronis to copy SWMBO's harddrive (Vista) onto an SSD and now it won't boot. I tested the copying process out first on my HDD Win7) and it worked fine, so I'm at a bit of a loss.

There is no jumper on the SSD to ensure it is a bootable drive so how can I find out? I've tried the tips in the Forum already but no change. It simply goes into a cycle of trying to boot, gets to loading OS, and then hangs and starts again.

I'm almost sure it is a boot problem, but Windows Repair doesn't work, safe mode doesn't work etc. And I've gone into the command prompt and tried bootrec/fixmbr which it completes successfully. Still won't start Windows though.

Help. Please.:o

Thanks guys. I did as suggested and did a complete new install.

I'm still at a bit of a loss as to why Acronis worked fine on Win 7 but not on Vista.

Anyhow, fixed and tidied up.

have you tryed bootrec.exe it will then show more commands to use like

/fixmbr
/fixboot
/scanOs
/rebuildbcd

there u now have more options before u go for the format option.

Thanks Dean. Tried the first two but then gave up. At least now I'll have this thread to refer back to.
