Windows won't install!

Cheers... good point.

Right, well... I've tried it and so far it isn't looking good. After it reboots, it says "completing installation", then it goes to a black screen (it used to get stuck here), but now it comes back in a better resolution but seems to be stuck. It simply says "completing installation ..." and the dots don't move.

Try manually loading the SATA drivers from a USB stick when in the disk selection stage. I know Dell Vostro laptops of old which were stuck in a loop on "completing install" with Vista unless the SATA drivers were installed (though I think the ones I had were Intel-based ones with Intel chipsets). Still worth a go though.

I had a problem with my GF 9 series g-card running windows 7, I couldn't get past the windows load screen. Turned out to be a driver issue, I needed to use some older forceware drivers.

Can you get into windows if you have no drivers installed? or in safe mode? if so this is likely to be your issue

No, I can't even complete the installation. Will nick my dad's gfx card - will try that if this fails.

EDIT: FIXED! Woohoo... installed the sata drivers and changed the gfx card. Not sure which was stopping the install, but it works. Strange huh?

Thanks everyone :)

Good stuff, glad you got it there in the end. You'll be pleased you did, Win 7 seems a little odd at first but within a week you'll be loving it!

Out of interest, what was your graphics card? Mine was the BFG 8800GTS 640mb on stock clocks. I wondered if there is indeed a common theme.

As I mentioned, even after I did get Win 7 installed, it kept crashing within 5 mins of boot up until I did one of the following: Installed all available Windows 7 updates, then installed latest graphics drivers. (don't remember which one ultimately fixed it, but the info you gave does kinda point toward the graphics drivers)

It's an xfx 9600GT. I had it running W7 before, but I decided to do a fresh install when I got my new mobo.

Still having problems with the card, it won't boot with latest drivers, but works with no drivers - downloading an older set of drivers.

Getting an ATI 5770 soon, so no worries!
