Left prime 95 running while i went out for a few hours. came back everything was fine, stopped it (didnt exit) - 0 errors. WMP and firefox were also left open. went to quick launch and clicked to show the extra shortcuts. it "depressed" and stayed but didnt show, went to exit prime, nothing, total crash :(
ctrl + alt + del didnt work, and repeated pressing didnt restart. So pressed reset button and everything seemed fine, got to windows loading screen and that completed, but right after that i get a black (dark grey really) screen and it gets stuck on that.

What should i do?

Thank you for taking the time to read all that lot.

Try resetting the CMOS, doubt it's connected but you never know. Windows registry entries may have been damaged, or the disk, by an unscheduled restart. Get into safe mode if you can, and run a disk scan.

You may need to use your windows CD to repair the installation.

i don't really know much about windows, but recently i have also lost the use of the startbar, ctrlaltdel doesn't work either and i can't run any programs. with mine it was a clash between some running programs, some drivers and "explorer.exe" and i need to reformat my system as it does it every time it starts up. how long have you had windows installed on the system for?

Will be less than a month tbh. Had a system crash (PSU died) so i'm thinking possibly this hard drive is a bit iffy. It is a Samsung Spinpoint 200gb. What is samsung's returns like? Fast?

Going to be ordering a new hard drive (was going to be as a 2nd/backup etc) so could get that then send this one off. Will test with some apps after doing a system restore (best bet?).

Thanks
