windows won't shut down

ive just recently formatted my family's computer (in the last couple of days) and now when i go to shut down the computer it just hangs on the shutting down screen and you have to push the power button to switch off. Im running xp pro.

In safe mode it will shut down fine. i tried shutting down every servive that wasn't needed before shutting down but it still hangs.

have yet to run any spyware checks - the only other thing i could think of - but if anyone has any other suggestions then i'm all ears.

Check your event logs for errors and warnings, these may help to identify the app or driver that is hanging.

Is there anything in startup that shouldnt be there?
