Today my friend gave me a Dell Inspiron 5000 Laptop for me to put some Anti Virus and Anti Spyware onto it. Turning the laptop on I discovered that there were two user names. I phoned him up and they said that they were the old users who gave the laptop to him so they could be deleted. I deleted the users my using the manage menu from right clicking my computer. Now when I load the Laptop up it goes to a normal XP login with Administrator as an account but its asking for a password. is there anyway to get round this?

If your friend has just recently been given the laptop & he has all the windows reinstall cds & driver disks you could always do a clean install as you can never be too sure what the previous owner has managed to get onto the system. :)

This would all depend on how much work your friend now has on this laptop & how much software/junk had been installed by previous owner. :D

With my acer laptop I used the serial code stuck underneath with my genuine copy of xp home&sp2 but it did require some activation crack once installed to stop it asking to activate xp. Not recommended. The acer xp cd supplied was pre activated unlike an oem copy of xp home, I think dell may be the same.

If he has the original XP installation CD and the key, then yes maybe a new install would be better for him...
