hello, I wonder if you lot can help me, im after an SSD for my workplace but the problem is the programs i use do not support windows 7 unless i fork out a lot of money to get the writer of the program to rewrite it to work on windows 7, its a bispoke bit of software that has a lot of small files.

certain times of the year these small files become very slow to load, basically its a MASSIVE database.

so i was wondering if it was possible to mirror to an SSD and run that, i currently use a raid 1 partition just in case one of the hdds decides to die on me, its happened before because its a commercial business and there's a lot of dust and soot which the atmosphere is thick of so hard drives get replaced every year.

basically i'm asking several things.

1) is it possible to use a ssd and a Hard drive in a raid1 partition or use 2 ssds for raid 1?, or use norton ghost for mirrored backups?
2) does trim really matter? any drives that have trim on the drive and not on the os for xp users?

thanks a lot for the help.

Some models of SSD provide utility to perform a TRIM style clean up on demand. Can only think of Intel and some Samsung.

No idea about RAID or if the utilities would work for RAID SSD's.
