Windows XP Documents search disabled?

Hey. Probably an easy fix, but I have no idea what I've done, or if I even caused it.

Basically, I've lost a piece of coursework from last year which I need for reference somewhere in My Documents (there's thousands of folders etc so need to search really to find it.)

Anyway, for some reason, when I click the search button in windows explorer, nothing happens - it just gets depressed. The Panel along the left with "File and folder tasks", "Other places" and "Details" doesn't change to the search panel.

What have I done wrong?

Not sure why its doing that, can you just right click on my documents and select search that way?

Nope.

Also, doing View -> Explorer Bar -> Search doesn't help either
