Hi All,

bit of a strange request but...

i was wondering if anyone knows if Microsoft or anyone else has any discounts for charity organisation / groups on operating systems. My frather is looking to get windows XP pro, on two pc's. he is not looking to spend a lot of money quite simply the charity does not have money to throw around at PC software.

if anyone has any ideas, or knows a way to get XP pro cheap for a charity then do tell. does overclockers do anything like this?

oh and yes they are a genuine charity with a charity Number and everything, before people start asking questions.

thx

Paulw :)

Think the best thing to do is to ring MS directly and speak to someone there, they might be quite forthcoming....

What does he need XP for? I'm not a big Linux fan myself, but in his position i'd definately be looking at that. I'd be using Linux if Vista wasn't bundled with my new laptop (ie the decision wasn't chosen for us :p ). This would be the perfect time to give Ubuntu a go :)

Charities are eligible to purchase all MS products at the Academic license prices.

The only problem with operating systems is that they only offer upgrade licenses on this scheme ( I think).

The academic licenses are mega cheap.

I'm not sure if you have to buy 5 licenses in your first order or not though?

You could always buy 5 cheap TS or Exchange CAL's or something.

They really don't advertise this very well though.

The best thing to do is contact a MS software reseller and have your charity number. I'm pretty sure that if you buy office each copy is licensed for use on 3 machines too.
