Im trying to do a clean install of XP on my thinkpad as its currently having some major problems, the problem is it says it can not detect a hard drive and press enter to restart the system.

Ive looked at the lenovo R61 thinkpad drivers page and the only HDD related drivers are for the drop detection system (moving read/write heads out of the way when it detects the laptop droping), and for intel matrix storage, which if i recall correctly is some form of software to allow several types of RAID arrays to be used on the same set of HDDs.

I couldnt find any specific drivers for the HDD itself so im guessing windows should be able to detect it by default, yet it cant. Does anyone know of a solution?

Is this an sata drive? l
I assume so, I got my r61 thinkpad less then a year ago so would be unlikely to be IDE.

Goto to http://www.driverpacks.net and slipstream the Mass Storage driverpack onto into your windows install disc.

Read the FAQ for the guide if you have never done it before.

I did exactly this this afternoon for the very first time and it worked a treat.

Ive never done this before and i have only just started looking at the newbie guide on that link you posted, and im confused a little. Does this take my XP cd along with new drivers and such and burn a new CD, or does it put the drivers onto the real XP CD, which i thought would be impossible?
