Meh, Just been asked to do a clean install on a computer, which defintely has a legal version of xp home on it.

I know this because I have the disk... with all of it's loverly scratches in my hand right now. Now I know the product key and have a license for windows for this machine... what I don't have is an xp home disk.

Does anyone know if
a) I can LEGALLY download an xp home iso from somewhere to use with this license?
b) If the license code would work if I put a copy of xp pro on? (which I am just rebuilding another machine with and have a bright new shiny disk for!!!
c) if there is anyway I can get this machine rebuilt today without having to buy a new copy of windows?

I think it is actually legal to download the iso provided you have the licence (you paid for the right to use the software - not the disk itself).

The same as its technically legal to download mp3s provided you have bought the disk at some point.

p.s you'd best check this because im not 100% sure

Hmmm ok just told the owner that it will have to wait...

Just really glad I checked to see if I had everything BEFORE I reformatted the drives.

normaly on large oem pre built computers the files you need to create the iso are in the c drive already, all you have to do is burn them to a cd.
hope it helps
