Hey guys, my mates PC problem seems to have been sorted....well mentally at least ;) he was running one of those non legit copies of Windows XP so couldnt get all the updates hence dual core wouldnt work so diminished performance.

Anyways he is buying windows xp today....so the question had to be....Home or Pro, ideally he wouldnt wanna spend too much so looking at home but I am looking for confirmation on support for dual core intel processors on it? As i have heard Intel dont offer loads of support.

Will he be okay getting Home? Or will he have to bite the bullet and buy pro?

HIs CPU is an Intel Pentium 4 D 945...thanks!

got a dual core chip running on xp home with no problems, xp pro is really only useful if you are doing lots of extra networking bits so i would save the cash!

Media Portal is a better HTPC front end than Media Centre. Media Centre is simple and will get you going, you can still use another HTPC front end though.

WinXP Home OEM is your best bet.
The biggest diffrence wiht the two is price. You would be paying for stuff you would never use, unless your a developer or needed to join a Windows domain.
Also if you've got two CPUs, you'll need PRO. Which I doubt you have.
