I installed a new PC yesterday with windows XP home, its connected to Wireless router that is shared by 2 other machines (all running XP home). The 1st has a Epson laser printer connected which is shared, and a folder shared. I can read/write files to the folder from other machines over wireless but they will not connect to the printer, they display a windows error referencing that the printer is no longer there, if I add the printer via add printers (by IP) it cannot see the printer.

any ideas?

make sure its enabled in network connections and you have at least this..

local%20area%20connection%20properties.jpg

go to windows firewall, disable, click apply, then re-enable file and printer sharing in the exceptions screen (incase it needs 'refreshing')

go to control panel, printers, right click, sharing, sharing tab, choose a small name..

go to system properties, computername, change -choose an easy computername, and set the workgroup to the same on all pc's (ie mshome)

(restart if it asks you to)

now go to the other computers, and click, start, run \\computername -of the computer with the shared printer.., then right click the printer, connect.

if you have any other firewalls other than the xp one, disable them at first to setup the printer. -personally i just use the xp firewall, its ample for my needs
