Hello,

I ahve been asked to format a laptop for someone I do computer work for. It's in a really bad state and a format would suit it best so I ahve agreed to format, reinstall, install apps, copy over documents, reinstall drivers and configure. It is running XP home at the moment and has the license key and OEM sticker on the bottom. I don;t have an XP home OEM disk.

Can someone tell me where I can download a valid XP Home ISO which I can burn and use to install with and will it activate using the license key on the bottom?

How much would you guys normally charge to do all this. I am not gonna do a crappy job of it. I'll make sure everything is set up correctly and will explain any changes to them and do a quality job of it.

Best if you can get your hands on a Dell XP Home disk as they install without asking for a code but require activating after its complete.

Dont know of anywhere you can do a "legit" download but various file sharing sites have them. Not software piracy really as you can only activate it using the legit code on bottom of laptop.

90% of the time it activates no problem. The other 10% a wee phone call to automated activate line does the trick

Regarding charging...depends really. Most places around here charge £50+ for doing it which when you take into account the time spent backing up (remember to check for malware/virus first just in case) and reinstalling the must have apps plus returning it to them isn't much really. Others may disagree though. Depends if your doing it as a favour or a legit declared job.
