Windows XP - how to make a mirror copy?

Well you could make a ghost image of the drive. Basically your taking everything on your computer now and putting on a disk (making a image) and then when you need to you can basically restore windows using the ghost image disk and it will have all your programs, data etc just how it was when you made the ghost image. I havent done it for a while but there are tools out there and how to guides to help you out.

Thanks very much - Acronis True Image looks just the ticket!

I'm looking to create a copy of disk from a Dell Inspiron laptop. The disk is configured as follows:

Partition 1 - FAT (system diagnostics)
Partition 2 - FAT32 (Norton Ghost system restore image)
Partition 3 - NTFS (Windows XP)

Will this application cope with the above?

Partition 2 will restore the PC back to its factory settings. If you want to create your own image with all your programmes etc included then partition 3 is the one to backup with Acronis.

Yeah but is Acronis able to create a backup of all 3 partitions? I would then like to be able to transfer these to a new HDD.

Yes, I recently used it to move harddrives and it can copy selected partitions on a harddrives or whole harddrives.

it is a great program , I use it now on my Vista 64 raid 0 setup, I also have a main c: image off next door neighbours pc off the installation I did for them before i gave pc back to them , so only 10 minute job to get pc back to normal , instead off a couple off hours for op sys then drivers etc ,

used for years. :-)

can someone explain how it works? i cant seem to find clear info last time i tried.

imagine i have an image of my disk in perfect condition. the next day its all got bugged with viruses, hiv, etc.. how do i format my disk and restore the image? do i boot into some cd version and select the image from another source or something?

Yes That's exactly what to do. When you install Acronis it gives you the option to create abootable CD. You boot from that, browse to where your image is stored and restore. Simple as.

Why would you need to buy Acronis when you have Norton Ghost already?!
