i am trying to install windows xp onto my 80gig maxtor harddrive but im having a few problems.

when installation has finished copying files to the harddrive the system reboots and instead of continuing the installation process, xp installation starts over again.

i have tried the installation on 2 different partitions with 2 different xp cds.

Please Help!!! :)

Hello stokerockscene, when the system restarts, their is no need to remove the installation disc, press anything or change any settings. :)

I did not press anything, it just automatically restarts the installation from scratch.

System specs;

abit-an8 motherboard
amd athlon 3500
2 gb ddr ram
80gb maxtor harddrive

Have just tried installing xp on a spare harddrive and it does the same.

when the installation runs again it says that there is already a windows installation present (the one that i just tried).

Hello stokerockscene, where abouts is the installation process at before the moment where the system restarts?

When the system restarts itself and the installation process restarts itself, which screen are you presented with? :)

the last screen i get before the system reboots is where the windows installation is copying files to the harddrive, it gets to 100% and then reboots to continue the installation.

the system reboots, and proceeds to boot from the cd again which restarts the installation. if i take out the cd it comes up with "INSERT SYSTEM DISK".
