Windows XP Installation Problem

I have two partitions on my driver, one was c:/ for the windows os and one was d:/ for storing data.

I decided to try a dual boot environment with linux, i could not install linux without activating ahci in my bios settings (Abit IP35). This then does not go down well with windows xp, so i found a fix on the net and managed to input the ahci intel drivers into windows and now the system was able to boot in ahci mode. I made a linux partition from halving the windows os partition.

I found that ubuntu did not work very well with my hardware and finding a fix for them was tiresome so i decided to go back to the my original setup, to do so i decided i would reinstall windows completely, going back to the c:/ and d:/ partitions.

I change the bios back from ahci mode to ide. Get into the windows installation menu then on the formatting bit, i find that my d:/ partition has been renamed to c:/ for some reason then when i deleted the 2 windows and linux partitions and then made one big new one for the windows os to go into, it call's that partition e:/ for some odd reason. I think nothing of it and install windows xp.

Then when it restarts and i am waiting for windows installaltion to boot from the hdd and carry on installing the other stuff, nothing happens. After it says press any key to boot from cd.... that's it. It does not boot. I have a feeling it has got something to with the way my d:/ has now been renamed to c:/ and the windows partition being called e:/.

I looked on google for users with similar problems but could not find anything helpful.

What i did do however was to try reinstalling linux with ahci on, which it then boots fine after installing. It's just windows xp when i try to go back to my original setup it does not want to boot up.

There is however one other possibility and that when windows writes to the mbr it says to look for the boot files in c:/ when it is no longer being installed to the c:/ but the e:/.

Does anyone know how to get the mbr to look at the e:/ instead of the c:/.
