Windows XP is broken!

oh look, i used that link and removed norton, yet the problem is still there

So norton wasnt he problem so im guessing you lot dont want to hear to were wrong ...

Norton's still crap.

Just reformat, and install cod2, then if it works, and if you must, install Norton.

By Norton's setup not finishing cleanly in the first place it could have fudged something.

maybe so, but it lead me to believe it was windows

back to my earlier question that everyone so kindly answered

once ive formatted windows, whats the easiest way to sort out all my stuff on my F drive eg as if i had just reinstalled all my games, should i just copy the relevant program files list

what about registry entries?

Let me make this clear, in big bold letters, even though it's probably a bit late now.

Next person to mention removing Norton can have a 24-hour holiday, on me.

It's off-topic, it didn't fix the problem, so take your moaning elsewhere please.

Wait a minute, are you just running Cod2 from the old Program Files folder without reinstalling it?

right this is what i did

Used to have my 2 120gb hard drives in raid 0

i deleted the raid array, let windows setup format the first hard drive. installed windows on it.

When in windows, i formatted the second drive from within windows.

When it was formatted, i then installed cod2 and my other games on my F drive. I installed all the other stuff, xfire, teamspeak, firefox etc etc on the drive with windows (C)

On my F drive i currently have:

Oblivion, Cod2, Cod, Cod UO, Company of Heroes and a game called Pax galaxia

I have nothing else on there apart from that.

I was going to do what everyone else suggested and format my windows drive, but i was wondering about the games on the f drive, as it wont be in program files and i would have thought the registry entries would not be there meaning they wouldnt work?

Heres what I would do.

Uninstall all your games from the drive they are on, making sure you back up the save files so you don't lose anything. Install windows back on to the other drive, but you only have to format that drive, i.e. c: The reason for uninstalling the games is that although some might work after a reinstall, some information contained in the registry won't be there meaning other won't.

Once windows is installed you can do what you like again.

you could try a diagnostic startup. This allows Windows to load with the basics only........

1. Click Start.
2. Click Run.
3. Type MSCONFIG
4. Hit enter/click ok
5. When the system configuration window opens, go to the services tab.
6. On the services tab, click the "Hide All Microsoft Services" check box.
7. Click "Disable All".
8. Go to the Startup Tab.
9. Click "Disable All"
10. Click OK to save the changes.
11. Reboot.

Note that when you reboot, it will automatically run the MSCONFIG utility for you so you can undo the changes you just made, before you do that, run the program and see if your problem is solved.

If that doesn't help, try a repair installation before formatting again.
