Windows XP MCE & Azureus

Windows Media Centre Edition gives me the impression of just having a funky media front end.. Is it just home with the front end? Can you still install programs the same way? MCE is the only os i have never had a play with...

Basically i have a nice little downloading pc for torrents etc and i have just bought a nice new lcd. So i thought i would combine the 2 and have the downloader as a htpc. Going to stick a gfx card with hdmi and a dual tuner and stick on some pvr software...

Media Centre is basically Home with HTPC front end. There are better HTPC front end software, although they do have niggles of there own they can offer slicker feel to MC. Try variable fast forwarding in MC for example, can't be done.

It does ffwd at different speeds

MCE is xp pro without domains and a free program chucked in that you can use to watch and record tv

basically so i can remotely access the machine from another pc or via the net.

Mine is set up so from work or my main pc i can connect to my download/file server and then download whatever i want so when i get home its completed. I can even transfer files to work too...

Yes you can remote in, by default its disabled and will also overwrite the active session (single session).

There is a patch available to allow multiple sessions so as not to interrupt watching TV etc. Google for "Termiserv_XPSP2_i386_1.0.exe"

:)
