Hey,

I'm running XP and it's failing to install an update. It has downloaded it succesfully, but can't install it. When i go to shutdown ("Install Updates and Shut Down"), it takes ages to do it (presumably as it's trying to install this update). Is there any way to find out what this update is and stop windows from trying to install it?

Cheers, Rob

Have a look in windowsupdate.log in C:\windows

All the relevant info should be in there.

Also, you should be able to install updates in "custom" fashion (when clicking the yellow sheild in the notification area), this will show you all pending updates. Right-click it and set to "not display this update again".

However this is a cheating way out, better would be to get the KB number from the log file and work out why it isn't installing, rather than using a workaround.

hmm, looks like it's an update for SQL server 2005. says it is high priority, but I don't even have SQL Server 2005 installed.

Just gunna tell it to ignore it.

Thanks!

Do you have Office 2007 installed? If you do then SQL server will be part of Business Contacts Manager or something equally as pointless.
