Windows XP Pro activation limit

Anyone know the activation limit for Windows XP pro?

I am sure I have seen stories of people reinstalling XP on the same machine too many times and reactivating each time and then on the next occassion getting a message to say it has been activated too many times. I understand you can call but I am talking about the online automated method.

Dunno... but my copy of Home won't activate over the 'tinterweb anymore!... I have to phone through if I need to re-activate now!...

I think I've re-built my machine 7 times so far!.. and this started on the 6th time I re-built..

I think for OEM its 5 times; retail I don't think there's a limit.

Bare in mind this is only for online activation. As long as you are licensed MS will activate your product over the phone.

Yeah sorry I should have clarified that - you can obviously call them to reactivate after that point
