The details about how this installs are a bit sketchy & was wondering if it correct that you can install it onto a clean system aslong as you have a previous operating system disk???

My laptop has xphome on it & it has the coa on the back but sadly due to it being aquired from work I had no system disks but I have aquired a copy of home on cdr (not legal I know but wanted a legal version) so the upgrade is a cheaper option as I can get one from another place of work.

All I want to know is has anyone upgraded from a fresh install with one of these upgrade disks & what would I need to do when installing.

Thanx

Kev

The retail upgrade simply want's to make sure that you have a product to upgrade from.
Obviously if the old OS is already on the system then fine.
If you've got a totally empty HD, during the install process it will stop and ask you to provide proof of an OS to upgrade from.
At such point you should remove the retail upgrade CD and insert the CD from your qualifying OS you're upgrading from.

The CD will be spun a couple of times and that will be it - verification complete.

I only buy Retail Upgrades (as the OEM licenses are too restrictive) so I've done this on quite a few occasions :)

been digging around in my parents loft & came out with a legit copy of windows 95, wonder if that would be a qualifying product, found numerous other thinsg but I wont go into that :D
