Its been a while since I've used XP but should that System Properties page not give information about the CPU as well?

if (I'm correct){
"mmmm the plot thickens"
else {
*ignore drunken ramblings*
}
}

Is this a new build? Installed or changed anything recently?

Odd. 32 bit Windows should show up to 3.5GB of memory. Sometimes however with some motherboards it is limited to 2-3GB. Did you just "upgrade" to media centre? Or did you wipe your system and start again? Because something may have gone wrong there. I would have thought that some system information should be shown too, so that may indicate something wrong (as mentioned in posts already). Also, my 32 bit xp installation finds all 8GB of my memory in CPUZ, but it doesn't mean that it can use it. It's just the way that CPUZ finds the memory.

i did an upgrade, i didnt whipe windows. all my programs/ drivers etc were there after the upgrade. dont know why its doing this tho.

I have to say that although 90% of the time all goes fine, I've seen Windows hiccup occasionally when updating. Don't know if this'll help with the memory problem though. It might be worth a reinstall to see what happens.

External Hard Drive Steam folder and reinstall? :) Backups are your friend!

What does BIOS say when you boot? Does it recognise it? What if you try removing some RAM from the system and booting, then shutting down and trying a different slot, etc, etc...you know all that playing around to see what comes out malarky!?

Go to Start > Run, type msconfig. Go to the BOOT.INI tab and click Advanced. Is the maximum memory set to 2048?

check your motherboard specs. i know my old mobo only takes 2gb ddr/ddr2.

otherwise, what does your task manager say for total memory?
