Lads,
A virus infected my machine recently. I managed to get rid of it with Kasperspy so the system is free from infections. However, I think the virus has damaged some system files. When I go to Start>Run and try and load 'cmd' I get an error: 'cmd is not a valid Win32 application.' I can run cmd.exe from the system32 folder but when I try and run a tracert command I get the same popup error. Other than that, the system is running grand.
Would a repair of XP be the logical way forward? I don't want to format and reinstall because I have two years worth of programs and settings suitably configured to my needs.
I have the original XP disc and the SP2 disc. Do I need to apply SP2 after doing a repair from the original XP disc? Would I be better off slipstreaming SP2 and XP onto one disc and doing a repair with that?
Muchos thankos.
