Windows XP Services Removal Guide

I did do this in XP. I try it a bit now in Vista. I'd use http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm for XP. :)

Advantages are less services running so less processes running taking up less RAM. PC should run a bit quicker as it hasn't much OS stuff to handle.

Disadvantage is losing functionality or perhaps more serious issues if you disable a service you or XP needs.
 
I wouldn't recommend disabling a lot of the services they have listed there, especially for the very meagre performance gains.
