Hi,

I've built my new PC, but it takes an age to get past the windows boot screen, the blobs do 10 passes and takes 20 seconds. (Windows XP sp3)

My old computer Althon64 was quicker than that.

Whats going in in the background when that screen is up. I've defragged which made a same difference.

System is E8400 on and Asus P5Q, Sata Hard disk and CD Rom, 2gb Ram, 4850.

Any Idea's on whats happening and how to speed thing up.

would having one 640GB partition cause anything like this to happen?

Cheers

It's often a driver-related thing. During that 20 seconds, does the PC read the hard drive all the time or does it stop for a while?

Have you disabled or set any services to manual especially dcom, dcom service off can cause a hang on the welcome screen but 20secs to desktop from first windows screen is about normal.

I sped it up loads by turning off the ide controller in the bios. I'm not using it. From hitting the power button to being ready to use in Windows now takes 30seconds. Now only spend 12 seconds on the boot screen. I'm happy with that

Cheers people
