Hi there,

I am right in assuming that it includes all the updates EVER for XP, upto the point it was created (and then a couple of performance tweaks).

Thanks.

Basically, yes.

Windows® XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) includes all previously released updates for the operating system. This update also includes a small number of new functionalities, which do not significantly change customers’ experience with the operating system.

I would like to see a customizable download of SP3 where the user could choose to roll in stuff like WMP, Defender and IE7 as one. That'd make it nice and easy to integrate to an existing Windows XP disc using nlite. Although I bet a clever sausage will tell me you can already do this :D

You can do this already.

Well I would guess that you could roll it into nlite, but I meant the download from Microsoft itself would be 1 single download.

I think the EU would go postal if MS wrapped any more stuff up in Windows :)

Made me chuckle :D

Will be interesting to see if it's that noticable change. Like when we went sp1 to sp2 there were visual changes and you could tell very quickly what version you were on.

Correct. Did you know that there is a version of XP that doesnt include Media Player because the EU said MS were forcing people to use it blah blah blah? MS reply - "Nobody wants the version without Media Player"

You do have to use tools like NLite to integrate things otherwise the Monopolies Commission people help themselves to Mr Gate's Cash. Its a pain for users but it is to encourage competition

The thing that totally escapes the EU is that competition and anti-competative measures are supposed to help customers, not other companies.

Removing common functionality from windows does not help customers in the slightest.
