Windows XP SP3

I think the EU would go postal if MS wrapped any more stuff up in Windows :)

I meant more as a choice of downloads. I like WMP, but am aware it's not everyones cup of tea. I would like the SP3 download to be a basic SP3 package, but with tick box addons for IE7, WMP, Defender etc which I could then integrate using nLite so I'd have these apps off the bat.

But yeah, probably too much hassle for MS, and maybe not enough call for it.

The other problem you then have, is people whinging about the size of the download.

That's easy enough to implement - many installers (Windows Installer included) can download additional components before installation (mainly packages they aren't licensed to distribute themselves).

Of course that requires an online download, which although useful for a home user, would not be feasible for a sys admin. Don't get me wrong, I'd like the idea, but I can't see it being implemented.

they should make SP3 with just hotfixes, and addon packs, one containing wmp11, ie7 and maybe defender, the other containing .net 1,2 & 3

-edit, afaik, it doesn't contain every hotfix EVER, just the ones on windows update and some extras

some hotfixes are only needed by a hand full of people and may well not make it in

It can't come soon enough for me. As a system assembler I try to ensure all new systems are Windows Updated to as recently as possible, and on new build XP machines with Office 2007 loaded on them the total amount of updates (including the various .NET frameworks etc.) is just short of 800MB!

It shouldn't be necessary for sys admins anyway - that's what WSUS is for.

Been using this since it came out before crimbo on a clean install, not had a problem with it, just as solid as SP2 has been :)
